My Intro
I am a compulsive adventurer.
I also define adventure in several ways.
For example, I moved to Samoa for 18 months. My wife needed to care for her mother in her final years so we moved. This was lifestyle change, I don’t think many people would define this as an adventure, but for me, it was.
New foods, language, culture, and job. Living in a village is nothing like living in a house and being isolated from everyone. Looking back on that time, it was a massive adventure.
I also count taking my kids mushroom hunting as an adventure. They think of it that way.
Climbing a mountain counts.
Overcoming anxiety to do something new and out of your comfort zone counts.
Adventures can be many things.
My job with this newsletter is to share many types of adventures, from a van-dwelling hiker to charity walking events. It might be a long-distance scooter ride or the first overnight hiking trip. If the person sees it as an adventure it counts.
I will share adventures and adventurers of all sizes.
As part of this newsletter, I want to share your adventures with a photo or video. If you have an adventurer who you enjoy and want to share, let me know.
See you in the next one.
Article
What better way to begin than with reasons for adventuring?
This article walks through nine reasons that adventuring is good for you.
A SubStack
Substack is full of adventurers.
So, what better place to begin than here?
Tom Turcich spent years walking around the world with his dog (who recently passed away). His SubStack is a collection of reflections about the walk and his perspective of the world.
I followed his walk for two years and he completed it two years ago.
A Charity
I met this man on the road months ago as he walked by my suburb. I am oddly proud to say I walked with him for about thirty minutes. Nice man, very motivated, and will do more after he finishes his walk around Australia.
But for now, he is about halfway around. He is on Facebook. Follow his walk, he isn’t boring.
Person
YoungAdventuress follows the travails of Liz Carlson, a solo female traveler in her mid-thirties.
Here is one article I quite liked… I also like it because I hiked around Golden Bay, New Zealand back in the 1990s and found it incredibly beautiful. Her account reflects my perspective.
Read the Golden Bay article here.
Video
Foresty Forest lives in his van and does walks, hikes, and some bike riding.
I have been watching him on and off for years. One of the reasons I like this guy is he is an anxiety-filled individual. He did a video about one year ago showing the filming process he goes through and explaining his anxiety. Very interesting viewing and is an example of how anyone can find a way to adventure with a lot of effort and some luck.
Book
I am still hunting for books to share, so even though I don’t have one, I want to make sure you see this anyway just in case it is the reason you subscribe.
